CPT James F. "Flem" Gordon announced formation of the
Association of the Century, Inc., a non-profit corporation, on 20 March
1978. It had been approved by the Secretary of State, Commonwealth of
Kentucky on 15 December 1977.
The first Board of Directors elected were:
- MG Benjamin J. Butler (Ret), Chairman (5 year term)
- MG Charles Beach, Jr. (Ret), Parliamentarian (3 year term)
- MG Zack C. Saufley, Member (1 year term)
- COL Frank B. Stein (Ret), Member (1 year term)
- LTC Joe E. Brown, Member/Record (1 year term)
The Board of Directors convenes quarterly with called meetings when
necessary. An annual meeting is held for all membership. Membership is
open to all 100th Division officers and enlisted personnel who are active
reservist or in retired status. An associate membership is also available.
Membership may be paid by annual or life time dues. Over 1,850 members
have joined the association.
The Constitution and Bylaws of the Corporation govern all actions taken by
the Association and board members are elected from those persons
volunteering.
The mission is clearly stated in our mission
statement.
The 100th Division (IT) was assigned additional command of eight U.S.
Army Reserve Forces (USARF) Schools located in Alabama, Mississippi and
Tennessee. As a result, the authorized number of the Board of Directors
was increased to 25 members in May 1998.
The financial status is made secure by perpetuating our funds from life
membership dues, trustee awards, and contributions to the scholarship
fund. Only the earned interest from these sources are expended annually
along with annual membership dues and memorial/tribute funds funding the
operation of the association. No board member or any other person receives
pay for their work.
Programs funded include:
- Annual Membership Meeting (Reimbursed by registration fees).
- Awards.
- Scholarship(s).
- Museum and Archives.
- Publishing Century Sentinel Newsletter.
- Maintaining an Internet Web Site (www.the-century.org ).
- General Administration.
